Manchester Local School District Board of Education Member Vacancy

August 15, 2019
Richard Foster
Manchester Local School District
Board President
Manchester, Ohio- The Manchester Local School District Board (MLSD) of Education seeks applicants to fill the unexpired term of board member Kathleen Stacy, who resigned effective August 14, 2019. Kathleen, who has been a member of the MLSD Board of Education since its creation in 2004, is resigning due to health concerns. She has been instrumental in many of MLSD’s successes and has been the ultimate advocate for the students and the community. She was MLSD’s Student Achievement Liaison for Ohio School Board Association (OSBA), received the OSBA Award of Achievement and served on many OSBA committees.
Fellow board member Richard Foster said,” Kathy’s energy and education experience has been a tremendous asset for us over the years. She has a passion for the staff and students and we will certainly miss her. I thank her for 15+ years of dedication to our district and community.”
Those interested in being appointed to this unexpired term must complete an application which is available in the MLSD Central Office or on the MLSD website (link below). Completed applications must be received by Eva Elliott, MLSD Treasurer no later than 3PM August 30, 2019. The Board will review all applications, then interview and appoint the replacement at its September 11, 2019 meeting. For any questions, please contact Richard Foster, Board of Education President.
(Board Member Application)
The board must name a replacement within 30 days of the resignation. The newly appointed member will serve until December 31, 2021. If the appointed member desires to continue serving, he or she must run in the November 2021 general election.
Ohio law, people serving on Ohio School Boards must be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen and be both a resident of MLSD and a registered voter.
Manchester Local School District serves approximately 800 students Pre-K to grade 12 in two buildings in Manchester, Ohio.

US Route 52 Closure, Stout Ohio

MLSD has been in contact with and met with people several times in efforts to find the best possible solution to this unfortunate situation.  Please keep in mind there are no good solutions.  We have come to a decision regarding the bus schedule.  Mrs. Tiffany Wallingford will pick up all students living on the east side of Rome (meaning towards Portsmouth) 25 minutes earlier than his or her pick up time from last school year.  Mr. Jeff Arnold will pick up all students living on the west side of Rome (towards Manchester).  Again, we are very sorry for these changes.  We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Manchester Local School District Board of Education Receives "Gold Level" Effective School Board Award

The Manchester Local School District Board of Education receives the 'Effective School Board Award' for 2018, from the Ohio School Boards Association for the 10th year in a row!

The purpose of the award is to provide a tool for self-evaluation of a school board and to provide a planning tool that can be used throughout the year for ensuring that the work of the board gets done. This is not a competition but rather an instrument that defines specific steps and actions that can be taken by the board to meet district goals.  The community and the school team play a major role in achieving this award. The OSBA Southwest Region Executive Committee developed this award to recognize school boards who are doing outstanding work in the region. The award was given at the OSBA Southwest Region Spring Conference in Lebanon on March 12, 2019.  Mr. Richard Foster, Board President, Mrs. Kathleen Stacy, Board Vice-President, Mr. Dave McFarland, Board Member & Mr. Brian Rau, Superintendent were present to receive the prestigious award.

Please click the 'MORE+' link below for award levels and the checklist that is used to determine the level of award.
